How much does tutoring cost in Hong Kong? 2026 home & online rate guide

Hong Kong tutoring rates are set by four variables: tutor background, format (home vs online), year level and subject scarcity, and lessons per week. For one-to-one, undergraduates are cheapest, full-time tutors sit in the middle, and registered teachers or those with international-curriculum experience are highest. Home tutoring usually costs more than online because travel time is priced in.
District matters too. Remote areas such as the Islands, North District and Sai Kung town have fewer home cases, so tutors may ask for a travel premium. Switching to online in these areas often cuts the hourly rate substantially while widening the tutor pool.
When comparing quotes, check four things: whether materials and marking are included; the make-up and notice rules for cancellations; whether payment is per lesson or monthly; and any prepayment cap. The Consumer Council's education materials are a useful prompt before you pay.
TutorHub shares tutor credentials and rate ranges first, and books the first lesson only after you confirm. The final rate agreed by both sides is written into the match record — no unilateral increases. On a tight budget, consider small groups of two to four, or a hybrid: online on weekdays, in person at weekends.
